Abdul vs. Xavier: Feud without Mercy

Their first match did little to settle who was the better fighter before they were forced to work together in their second match.  Their final encounter was our first-ever shoot match.

BWN's most famously merciless feud got its start when Abdul challenged then-newcomer Xavier to a no holds barred Beg for Mercy match in a boiler room.  Somewhat amused, shoot fighter and expert wrestler Xavier makes quick work of Abdul, injuring him in less than five minutes as promised to an apparently stunningly fast victory.

But Xavier comes back to pour on some more punishment and when the tide turns and Abdul gets the upper hand, he shows no mercy.  The suffering that Abdul puts Xavier through -- specifically his leg, towards the end of the match -- has become legendary.  Even   injured, however, Xavier fights back repeatedly trapping Abdul and refusing to submit.  But Abdul keeps returning to the injured leg.  The intensity is incredible.  Eventually, while screaming in excruciating pain and refusing to give up, Xavier's hands are bound behind his back long enough to allow Abdul to gain the hard fought victory by putting Xavier through a board, leaving him unconscious.

Abdul leaves Xavier there, only to have to come back to get his shirt that he forgot.  When Abdul returns, he sees Xavier being questioned -- with his hands tied behind his back -- by a mysterious guy (Storm).  Abdul jumps the guy from behind, coming to Xavier's aid despite their brutal match.  But Xavier's warnings to Abdul about the presence of another guy in the room are ignored.  Eventually, the other guy makes his presence known (Thunder), and when Xavier gets free it turns out that Abdul and Xavier have to fight together against their new enemies.  This is Beg for Mercy 2: Judgment Night, and despite fighting hard both Abdul and Xavier are eventually defeated.

Afterwards, Xavier takes out his frustration on Abdul who he sees as responsible for the entire situation and gets his revenge by jumping Abdul and putting HIM through the same broken board, leaving Abdul laid out.

To finally settle the feud, Abdul and Xavier agree to our first-ever Wrestling Challenge.  No storylines, no performances.  Just real submission wrestling for 30 nonstop minutes with points.  The submissions go back and forth, but in the end Abdul proves to be just slightly better than Xavier and emerges victorious from the feud.

Ironically, however, it was this match against Xavier that caused Abdul to be too tired to perform well against Foxx in Tournament: Round 4 (Abdul refused to rest between matches).  As a result, Foxx destroyed Abdul easily -- who otherwise would have been a huge challenge for Foxx -- and, in fact, his destruction of Abdul was so complete and humiliating that this became Abdul's last match as Foxx totally embarrassed him on the mat.

Abdul's victory over Xavier in their feud ended up costing Abdul everything, including the shot at a rematch against Eric that he so badly wanted in the Tournament Series.  Having failed to achieve his goal and after being humbled by Foxx, Abdul retired.

At the BWN Video Awards, Abdul was voted Best Retired Wrestler. (Members are entitled to a free copy of the BWN Video Awards).
